You can get compensated for a slip and fall accident

Imagine being at work when you walk toward your office and trip over a loose piece of carpet. Or, perhaps you were walking into the building from your vehicle when you twisted your ankle and fell. Whatever happened, if the premises was dangerous and led to your injury, you should be able to seek workers’ compensation for your injuries.

There are several reasons why slip, trip and fall accidents happen. For instance, poor drainage can allow water to pool and make floors slick. Irregularities of the indoor walking surfaces can mean that you trip when you expect a flat floor where it actually rises up. Unmarked stairs and those without treads can also be dangerous and create a fall hazard.

Outside, weather conditions including snow and ice can make the ground slick and put you at risk of a fall. Whether outside or in, inadequate lighting hides cracks, uneven surfaces and other hazards you could trip over or slip on.

To prevent these issues, there are a few steps your employer can take. For example, if it’s cold and wet outside, putting down salt can help prevent ice from forming. If tiles are coming loose inside, then it’s a good idea to replace them or to put up a sign to warn workers of the hazard.

If part of your office or workplace has inadequate lighting, don’t be afraid to bring it up. Plugging in a simple lamp or getting new, brighter light bulbs can make a huge difference in the lighting provided in the workplace.
