Common causes of construction site ladder accidents

On Behalf of | Jul 11, 2017 | Construction Accidents |

Working on a construction site means coming in contact with a variety of tools on a daily basis.

Many people use ladders, day in and day out. While this is one of the most useful tools, it’s also one of the most dangerous.

Here are some of the most common causes of construction site ladder accidents:

— Using the wrong type of ladder. The right ladder can go a long way in keeping you safe when climbing and descending. The wrong ladder, however, will increase the likelihood of an accident.

— Using a damaged ladder. You should never assume that a ladder is in good working condition. You should inspect it before you ever take your first step.

— Incorrect use. Did you know that there is a right and wrong way to use a ladder? For instance, you should always have three points of contact for stability. If you make a simple mistake, it could lead to a serious accident.

— Placing a ladder on a slope or soft ground. A ladder must be placed on firm and level ground. If you opt against this, your chance of a fall is much greater.

These are some of the most common causes of construction site ladder accidents, but there are others that can come into play as well.

If you are injured in any type of construction accident, stay where you are until medical help arrives. Also, report the accident to your employer as soon as possible, as this will protect your legal rights while also helping others avoid the same fate.
