As a construction worker, you rely on many tools to complete the task at hand. A table saw is a commonly used tool, as this allows you to make fast and efficient cuts.

However, you need to remember something else: A table saw can also be extremely dangerous if not used in the appropriate manner.

When it comes to table saw safety, here are a few tips to keep in mind at all times:

  • Remove any debris from the table before using it, such as tools and scrap materials
  • Plan your cut in advance, so you know exactly what you are doing
  • Double check that you are wearing all the necessary safety gear, such as goggles
  • Align the electrical cord (if there is one) to ensure that it’s out of the way
  • Don’t rush through the cut, as this increases the chance of an accident
  • Never make any adjustments to the tool that are not suggested by the manufacturer
  • Let others know you’ll be making a cut, so that they can keep their distance
  • Using a push stick as opposed to moving your fingers close to the spinning blade

Table saw safety doesn’t have to be as challenging as it sounds. When you follow these tips, you’ll find it much easier to avoid trouble.

If you are ever injured in a worksite accident, such as one involving a table saw, make sure you receive immediate medical attention. Once you know what went wrong and how long it will take to recover, you can then learn more about the workers’ compensation system and where you fit in.
