Tips for keeping a construction site clean

On Behalf of | Feb 28, 2018 | Workplace Accident |

As a construction worker, it’s easy to lose focus of just how important it is to keep your site clean. One piece of debris leads to another, and soon enough there is stuff laying everywhere.

This doesn’t seem like a big deal, but construction site debris can increase the likelihood of an accident, such as a slip and fall.

Here are some top tips for keeping a construction site clean:

  • Separate scraps throughout the day. This way, when the day comes to an end, you have a clear idea of what is trash and what is not.
  • Assign cleanup tasks to ensure that nothing gets missed. Also, this allows everyone to understand his or her role in keeping the site clean.
  • Never work in an area full of debris. Doing so can increase the risk of an accident, as you’re focused on the task at hand not the debris that has piled up.
  • Make it easy to stay clean. With trashcans and dumpsters available, it’s much easier for workers to clean the site as the day goes by.

These are some of the easiest ways to keep a construction site clean, thus reducing the risk of an accident and subsequent injury.

If you’re part of a construction site accident, such as a slip and fall as a result of debris, you should receive medical attention. Also, report the incident to your employer, as you want them to know exactly what went wrong.

In the event that you’re unable to return to work, you may want to file a claim for workers’ compensation benefits.
